With our extensive experience in specializing solely in the landscape design and construction area of the industry, we are not a lawn maintenance company, we have developed and perfected construction procedures that have actually improved on the manufacturer’s installation recommendations. We are the only Landscape Contractor in the area with a “Life Time” warranty available on all of our Hardscape projects while most of the others offer only a 1-year warranty.

Retaining walls are the best defense for holding soil in hilly places, or to hold a man made garden in place. They are used in many ways on your property and you should call us for your retaining walls needs in Northwest Indiana. If your wall is built improperly, it might bulge and crack, or collapse entirely, leaving you with an expensive mess!

You need to start out with a solid base. This is set below ground level. The higher the wall is going to be, the further in the base has to be set and that is well below ground level. Packed gravel is used the base and corrugated drain tile is placed behind the base of the wall to allow rainwater to flow away from the Retaining Walls. The wall also needs proper backfilling with filtering fabric and stone a minimum of a foot wide for proper drainage before adding soil to fill the rest of the space behind the retaining walls. Depending on the height of the wall and the soil conditions we may need to add Geo-Grid reinforcement into the hillside. If you are going to put in plants, then fill it with native soil of about 6 inches over the gravel fill then you have a healthy base for plants.

Your St John, IN property will be enhanced once your wall is completed by our professional landscapers. The wall itself is not penetrated by water so making sure you have proper drainage is very important because this could cause the wall to fail. Without proper backfilling, it is a waste of time and money.

Next is the consideration of the height needed for your wall, and what function it is ultimately going to be used for. A simple retaining wall is typically 3 or 4 feet high, this is a good height because it will not require further bracing or other reinforcements. Ideally, if you need a higher wall it has to be designed by an engineer of which we are in constant contact with. The 3 to 4 foot wall can be used in series to make a terrace effect for plants or other decorative plants if you wish.

The ideas for retaining walls are numerous, like consider building a fireplace into it to add to your back yard patio. Build in seating if the wall is a part of your garden area or entertainment areas. There are plenty of things you can do with a wall! Our professional landscapers will help you beautify your property, increase its value and once your friends start enjoying it at get-togethers they will definitely be envious of your St John, IN property!
